Proxy server

Go to Glossary List

Description: A server sitting between a client machine and a server machine. It communicates with the server on behalf of the client, and communicates with the client on behalf of the server. Proxy servers are often used to enforce security (in firewalls). HTTP proxy servers also have a 'cache' feature, which stores previously accessed pages that can be returned to browsers quicker than through a real access to the page.
